Five12 Run club competes at state

Anna DePew’s sixth place finish led the five Spartan girls in the heptathlon at the state combined event championships on Saturday in Lake Stevens.

DePew, a junior, earned 3,798 points in the seven events — 200 meter dash, 800 meter race, 100 meter hurdles, shot put, javelin, high jump and long jump.×

“Anna did great across the board,” head coach Jordan Sneva said.

Caroline Dolan, a junior, placed 12th and won the long jump with a personal record distance of 16 feet, 3.25 inches. Senior Bailey Post (20th), sophomore Stephanie Yerigan (25th) and junior Taylor Lamb (26th) also placed.

“They didn’t have a lot of time to prep because they all were at the state championships the week before,” Sneva said. “And for some of these girls, some events were new to them. But they’re all quick studies.”

Since the state multi event competitions are not WIAA events, athletes don’t wear school uniforms. Instead, the Spartans opted for a uniform from Tacoma-based five12apparel, which makes athletic wear from used coffee grounds, jackets from recycled water bottles and backpacks from recycled windshields.

“They were fueled by coffee,” Sneva said.
